Plymouth City Council have introduced a unique combination of the latest Ransomes ride-on out front-rotary and Scag walk-behind rotary, all contained within a single mobile unit, to maintain school grounds in their area. The Ransomes HR 3300T, the lead machine in this combination, was purchased from local Ransomes Jacobsen dealer, PJ Flegg of Ivybridge. RANSOMES JACOBSEN is a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company.

Nick Maker is the Operations Manager for Plymouth’s Waste & Street Services and comments,
“We have over 50 schools across the city and need to have a dynamic and flexible capability to maintain their grounds. We came up with the idea of a three-man team with a dedicated ride-on area mower, a smaller walk-behind machine for confined spaces and a strimmer for tidying up. All of this was to be contained within a single mobile unit to provide the flexibility required.

“However, most out-front rotaries with the required capacity were too heavy and required a lorry as the towing vehicle. This meant that the operators would need a special licence to drive the unit. Then we came across the HR 3300T; Flegg’s demonstrated it to us and we quickly realised it would suit our needs, perfectly. It has a high output and at less than a tonne, it’s the right weight.

“Our unit now comprises of an Isuzu van, fitted out to carry the Scag, the strimming equipment, fuel, safety cones and PPE, towing a trailer with the HR 3300T. It’s a self contained unit and works extremely well.”

Keith Williams, who operators the HR 3300T added, “This new Ransomes mower is really good. They’ve thought about the design and given us carrying racks for extra equipment, a lift up deck that makes maintenance very simple and it’s quiet; which is good as we are working within school grounds most of the time.”
